Employees at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center are dedicated to protecting the well-being of children in every way. Our commitment includes a responsibility to identify, report, intervene, and provide care in all suspected cases of child maltreatment.
The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Program at Connecticut Children’s provides comprehensive medical and psychosocial care to children who may have experiencedchild maltreatment. Clinical care provided by the SCAN program includes:
- Medical and psychosocial consultation and evaluation
- Expert consultation to community partners
- Crisis intervention and parent education
- Referral to other specialists for ongoing mental health treatment and other recommended evaluations or treatments
Child Protection Team
The Child Protection Team is a resource for Connecticut Children’s medical and support staff members who suspect abuse or neglect in pediatric patients receiving care. The team includes staff from Connecticut Children’s SCAN Program, child and family support services, the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF), and other community agencies. These highly skilled professionals collaborate to provide education and support to physicians, nurses and other specialists within Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and to increase coordination between Connecticut Children’s specialists and members of the community.
