Childhood obesity has tripled over the past 30 years, and the most recent CDC statistics indicate 18.5% or children and adolescents have obesity. Rates are higher in low income and minority children (22% of Black & 26% of Latino children). The vast majority of pediatric obesity is due to a complex interplay between many factors, including gene-environment interactions, parenting, child temperament, family dynamics, and home, school and community environments.
