Connecticut Children’s is committed to providing new and current team members with the information, resources, and professional development to practice with excellence. The Learning & Performance Team offers programs with tailored orientation and training opportunities for registered nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. All clinical team members participate in a yearly competency assessment and verification process that is based on the Donna Wright Model. Clinical staff participate in the selection of competencies specific to their practice setting, and then determine appropriate validation methods. The process is dynamic and role-specific, offering the maximum amount of clinical staff control.

Connecticut Children’s is an Approved Provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. We strictly adhere to the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on accreditation criteria to ensure educational activities presented meet the specified standards.

Nursing Contact Hours are available through our Nursing Contact Hour Portal. The web based portal allows you to:

Offered by the Institute for Nursing Research, Nursing Grand Rounds is free and open to all team members. The programming is fundamentally grounded in research and evidence that supports best practice and transforms pediatric care.

The Institute for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is dedicated to improving the health of children through nursing research and evidence-based practice. It embraces innovation, exploration, interdisciplinary collaboration, and translation into practice.

The Nurse Residency Program at Connecticut Children’s is a comprehensive, 12-month program for all newly licensed nurses. The program supports their transition from the academic setting to the clinical practice setting and offers opportunities for them to develop.  The program supports skill-building around communication, time management, delegation, critical-thinking, and evidence-based practice.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a dynamic course developed by the American Heart Association to prepare health care providers with the knowledge and skills needed for pediatric resuscitation. The course is intended for physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other health care providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies. Courses are held at 10 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford from 8 am-4:30 pm.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program focuses exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants.
