The Pediatric Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Center of Excellence at Connecticut Children’s provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment of inherited neuropathies. The center is designated as a Clinical Center of Excellence by the Inherited Neuropathy Consortium, which is supported by the NIH Rare Diseases Branch.

The center is led by board-certified neuromuscular specialist Gyula Acsadi, MD, PhD, and includes an orthopedic surgeon Kristan Pierz, MD, a dedicated nurse coordinator, Nanci Stolgitis, and physical and occupational therapists.

The program conducts research and works closely with Connecticut Children’s Center for Motion Analysis and Sylvia Ounpuu, MSc, the Education and Research Director for the Center. The Center for Motion Analysis conducts comprehensive assessments of gait abnormalities to aid surgical treatment and bracing decisions and is currently funded by the Harold and Rebecca Gross Foundation to study orthopedic surgical outcomes and the natural progression of gait over time in adolescents with CMT.
