Hartford, Conn. – Connecticut Children’s Injury Prevention Center (IPC) is excited to offer its Hayley Petit Injury & Violence Prevention Fellowship again this fall and has selected four women to participate in the program.

This fall’s fellows represent a diversity of experiences, colleges and majors. They are:

  • Kiley Brennan: Providence College, Health Policy Management and Sociology
  • Chloe Ouchida: Trinity College, Neuroscience
  • Mia Marciano: UCONN, Psychology
  • Sarah Chen: UCONN, Physiology and Neurobiology

The women are spending eight weeks learning injury prevention strategies in a virtual capacity from experts at the IPC. Each fellow will receive a $500 stipend for her participation in the fellowship program. The fellowships are generously supported by a grant from the Petit Family Foundation, which also funded similar fellowships during the past five years.

“The Hayley Petit Injury and Violence Prevention Fellowship is an important opportunity to introduce the next generation of leaders in medical and health sciences to the critical need to prevent such concerns in the future,” said Kevin Borrup, DrPH, JD, MPH, executive director of Connecticut Children’s Injury Prevention Center. “We are excited to work with these four women to help shape their thinking and knowledge as they move forward with their academic and professional journeys.”

The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit and Michaela Rose Petit by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives.

“We are pleased to support another group of women who are participating in the Hayley Petit Injury and Violence Prevention Fellowship at Connecticut Children’s,” said William A. Petit, Jr., MD, president of the Petit Family Foundation. “We believe the training offered through this program is critical to raising awareness about the impact of injuries and violence and will help prevent such incidents in the future.”

The IPC is part of Connecticut Children’s Office for Community Child Health, which works to strengthen families to promote their children’s optimal health, development and well-being.
