Adam Matson, MD, MSc, is a Neonatologist and Physician Scientist in the Division of Neonatology at Connecticut Children’s. Dr. Matson’s clinical expertise is in neonatal intensive care. He also runs a basic/translational research laboratory at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is the Director of Connecticut Children’s Neonatal Biorepository. He has served as principal investigator and collaborator/physician-scientist on grants from the American Lung Association, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.

His current research focus is on the regulation of intestinal health in premature infants including the microbiome, inflammatory signaling in the gut, and nutritional/immune factors in breast milk. His group was the first to report a link between cytotoxin-producing Klebsiella oxytoca and necrotizing enterocolitis, a severe and life-threatening intestinal inflammatory disease of premature infants. Dr. Matson serves as a member of the Neonatal Fellowship Scholarly Oversight Committee and has mentored several fellows whose projects have led to high-impact publications and presentations at national and international meetings. In his free time, Dr. Matson enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family.
