American Nurses Credential Center Accreditation
Connecticut Children’s has received accreditation from the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) through its Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). This is the highest recognition an organization can be awarded by the ANCC and a true testament to our commitment for nursing excellence. Our evidence-based nursing residency curriculum offers residents a collaborative learning environment to successfully transition into clinical practice. Residents are given the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff and learn in a real-life setting to be better prepared and more confident as they enter the workforce.
Magnet Recognition
Connecticut Children’s received Magnet recognition by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program®. Considered the gold standard in nursing excellence, Magnet designation recognizes quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Presently only 9.4% percent of hospitals nationally have earned this designation, including just 7 in Connecticut.
American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation
Connecticut Children's Electrodiagnostic Laboratory (EDX Lab) has received formal national recognition from the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). Connecticut Children's EDX Lab has been accredited with exemplary status at both our Farmington and Hartford locations. The AANEM EDX Laboratory Accreditation Program is a voluntary, peer-review process that acknowledges laboratories for achieving and maintaining the highest level of quality, performance, and integrity based on professional standards.
ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support--Gold Level
Connecticut Children's was awarded the ELSO (Excellence in Life Support) Award for Excellence in Extracorporeal Life Support--Gold Level! The ELSO recognizes ECMO programs worldwide that distinguish themselves by having processes, procedures and systems in place that promote excellence and exceptional care in providing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to their patients. ECMO is one of the most advanced forms of life support available to patients at Connecticut Children's who are experiencing acute failure of their cardio-respiratory system, as it allows time for their lungs or heart to heal via a heart-lung machine that oxygenates the blood outside the body.
Adult Congenital Heart Association Accredited Comprehensive Care Center
Connecticut Children's achieved accreditation from the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA). ACHA worked with leading providers of adult congenital heart disease care to develop criteria for ACHD accreditation. This is a crucial area for advancing and standardizing the quality of care for ACHD. Every person with CHD needs access to specialized care regardless of where they live.
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality
Connecticut Children’s achieved accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program®. MBSAQIP accredits inpatient and outpatient bariatric surgery centers in the U.S. and Canada that have undergone an independent, voluntary, and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards. This accreditation not only promotes uniform standard benchmarks, but also supports continuous quality improvement.
Mental Health America Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health
Connecticut Children’s has been working tirelessly to dewrangle the stigma related to mental health and will continue to do so every day for our team members and our patients. Therefore, we are proud to be one of the first recipients of the Mental Health America Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health.
Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all. The Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health is a national certification program that recognizes employers committed to creating mentally healthy workplaces.

Each year, the Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program recognizes organizations from across the country for their dedication to building well-being and reducing physician burnout in their organization. Connecticut Children's was awarded the 2023 Bronze Award.
2024 Women’s Choice Award® Best Children’s Hospital
Connecticut Children’s has been named as a Best Children’s Hospital by the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. Connecticut Children’s also received this award in 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.
Additionally, Connecticut Children’s earned the 2024 and 2023 Best Children’s Emergency Care Award for receiving a perfect score for the level of care and expertise offered in our Emergency Department. This recognition is especially meaningful for Connecticut Children’s team members as they continue to tackle the downstream effects of the pandemic which include unusually high numbers of children fighting RSV, influenza, and COVID.
Level 1 ACS Verified Children’s Surgery Center
Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program (ACS CSV). The CSV program is based on other nationally recognized American College of Surgeons quality improvement programs that have measurably improved surgical quality and have prevented complications, reduced costs, and saved lives.
Society for Pediatric Sedation Center of Excellence
Connecticut Children’s has been named New England’s first and only Center of Excellence by the National Society of Pediatric Sedation (SPS). In addition, Connecticut Children’s is one of only 10 programs nationally to receive the distinction. As a Center of Excellence, Connecticut Children’s has demonstrated its commitment to the highest quality pediatric sedation care and standards of the SPS.
eHealthcare Leadership Award Winner
Connecticut Children’s was the recipient of six 2023 eHealthcare Leadership Awards. These awards included the Platinum award for Best Landing Pae or Microsite, the Platinum award for Best Digital Leadership in Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Gold award for Best Email Content - Individual Email. 2024 LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer, Human Rights Campaign
Connecticut Children's earned the High Performer in the Healthcare Equality Index survey. Healthcare facilities receiving High Performer designation earned a score between 80 to 95 points and were required to receive full credit in Criteria 1 and at least partial credit in Criteria 2, 3, and 4. As an “LGBTQ+ Healthcare EqualityHigh Performer,” these facilities are going beyond the basics when it comes to adopting policies and practices in LGBTQ+ care. 2023 CHIME HealthCare’s Most Wired Award
Connecticut Children’s has joined the Digital Health Most Wired list of hospitals for the sixth consecutive year. In addition, Connecticut Children’s specialty clinics received the Ambulatory Digital Health Most Wired Award for the fourth year. Hospital winners are recognized for making it easier for patients and clinical experts to interact through digital channels, thus improving communication, safety and patient-clinician relationships.

2021-2023 Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Gold Level Center of Excellence
The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team at Connecticut Children’s was recognized as a Gold Level Center of Excellence from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).
